ThreatFire 3.5 receives PC Magazine’s Editors’ Choice
Behavioral based technology recognizes every single sample, receiving perfect score
San Francisco, May 12 2008: Leading security software vendor, PC Tools, has again been awarded PC Magazine’s prestigious Editors’ Choice award for its newly released behavioral based anti-malware product, ThreatFire 3.5.
According to reviewer Neil Rubenking, ThreatFire 3.5 “adds brand new features and is more effective than ever at protecting your system from known and unknown threats” with “the real power” of the program being “its ability to identify malicious software strictly by its behavior, not by matching it in any database”.
The latest release of ThreatFire was also credited with a perfect score having “recognized every single one of the samples” and the fact that “no other product tested with this particular collection of malware has scored that high”. Rubenking said that Threat Fire “would be an excellent complement to your existing protection”.
“PC Tools have built on the success of ThreatFire 3 by providing some significant changes and enhancements to offer consumers a more sophisticated level of protection. We are naturally honored by an award that recognizes the achievement of our research and development team” said Simon Clausen, Chief Executive Officer, PC Tools.
Additional features in version 3.5 include a new Threat Detection map, allowing users to view the geographical distribution and listings of detected malware threats, and a free on-demand antivirus scanner. ThreatFire is also now fully integrated with automated threat analysis system Threat Expert, which can provide users with known threat updates within minutes of a threat’s identification.
PC Magazine flagged the anti-malware product’s effective blocking of known and unknown threats, identification of known threats by name and reporting of suspicious actions, risk levels and threat type as reasons for its Editor’s choice rating.
